Kim + Nick Wedding Photos
Kim and Nick were so fun to meet and photograph for their wedding. We met out at an airfield to take pics with their plane before heading over to their AirBnB for the ceremony and reception. If airplane photos weren't epic enough, a satellite was launched during their reception so we all were able to run out and watch it. Crazy right?! Such a great day...their friends and family, amazing food, great vendors - a perfect day. Congrats you two on your 11 years. I loved digging in and asking a few questions and getting to know your story. I hope to see you two on some future travels!

1. Why did you decide to have a vow renewal to celebrate 11 years?
We had talked about doing a vow renewal for a few years, and had originally wanted to celebrate our 10th anniversary with a vow renewal, but unfortunately with COVID delays and restrictions still in place in some regard, getting everything perfect wasn't going to be possible. So even though 11 was an odd number, it worked for us! Our first wedding had some glitches and although the outcome of the day was a successful marriage, we wanted to celebrate with those closest to us again, minus any mishaps and drama.
2. Why was it significant to take airplane photos before your big day?
Flying is a core part of our relationship. We met while attending college and flight school at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, FL. Having flying in common was the start to our friendship and eventual relationship. Our airplane has brought us on so many different adventures and we wanted to have that represented in our vow renewal pictures. The airplane is a 1965 DeHavilland Beaver. We also live on a fly-in community near Atlanta, and are both professional pilots. I am a Captain for Delta Air Lines and Nick is a First Officer for Netjets. To say flying is a huge part of our lives is an understatement. We wouldn't be "us" without aviation.
3. What items did you incorporate from your original wedding day and can you elaborate on how you used them?
We chose to have an airplane propeller as our guestbook for our original wedding in 2011, and we brought it with us to the vow renewal so guests at this celebration could also sign it!
4. What was the special piece on your bouquet?
I had my grandfather's Air Force pilot wings pinned to my bouquet. Both of my grandfathers were pilots in the Air Force. My paternal grandfather flew B-24's in World War II and retired from the service as a Lieutenant Colonel, and my maternal grandfather flew P-38's in World War II as well as serving as a pilot in multiple aircraft in the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He retired from the service as a Colonel. It was a way to have both of them with us even though they have since passed away.
5. How did you find your vendors?
The vendors were sourced via my own searching and through my awesome wedding planner Tia of Coastal Coordinating! I knew what I wanted...ie Southern Soul BBQ specifically for the catering, and I knew I wanted raw oysters (my favorite) and conch fritters (nick's favorite) for appetizers. Nick and I have flown our airplane to St. Simons Island, GA to visit Southern Soul BBQ on countless occasions, so we knew we wanted them to cater the party. Tia was the mastermind of finding the other specific vendors that fit exactly what I was looking for!
6. Looking back on your original wedding day, what advice would you give yourself about what to expect in marriage/life?
Honestly, I think I had this idealized version of marriage/life when we first got married at 22. We were both so young, and I did not really fully grasp the work required to make a marriage work, and how to build a successful life. Luckily Nick and I both grew up together, and did not grow apart. Marriage is a partnership and it does actively take work. But if you put in that work, life will be more amazing than what 22 year old me could have ever imagined.
7. What was your high point of the vow renewal day?
The high point of the vow renewal was taking a moment to look around the venue and see everyone having a great time, enjoying the drinks, the food, the steel drum player and the beautiful weather. It was a perfect evening, and it was exactly what we wanted!
